The Game of Life - Dastardly Review #057

Updated: Jul 2, 2018

The Game of Life was released by Milton Bradley in 1960 to mark the 100th anniversary of Milton Bradley’s first game - The Checkered Game of Life from 1860. The new version of Life did not resemble the original which used a checkerboard like board printed with “good” and “bad” events of life.

The 1960 version is a beautifully printed track of life events and uses a spinner that is built into the board. Players move through Life in a little plastic car token. The car can hold six passengers (husband, wife and four kids). The game is mainly one of luck.

There are some decision points in the game but mainly you are getting a college degree, going to work, buying a house, getting married, having kids and all of the fun or not so fun associated with Life.

The winner is the player who accumulates the most assets.

The Good: The car tokens are cool. The Bad: Didn’t like the spinner built into the board.

The Dastardly: My brother and I created some new spaces and events...divorce, lose the house, bankruptcy etc to closer mimic real life
